How To Choose a Wedding Planner | 5 Tips You Must Know
Planning a wedding can be daunting. There’s a lot that goes into a couple’s big day! The best way to handle this stress is by hiring a wedding planner. But that comes with its own struggles, right? Knowing how to choose a wedding planner is a daunting task in and of itself, so let’s talk about why vibing with your planner is important, and some tips on how to choose a wedding planner that is actually right for you.
1. Make sure you connect with your wedding planner on the first meeting
So often, I don’t get to know a couple's personality until after a couple meetings. It is so important to get to know the planners you are interviewing by showing off your personality as early on as possible. Energy feeds off other energy so if you are showing off who you truly are, your fun loving self, then your initial meeting will set the tone for the next year or so that you are planning your wedding with this person.
2. Ask them how many weddings they take on in a year
It’s very important to know if your planner will be able to respond to emails or phone calls relatively quickly. Sometimes, if someone has too much work, they begin to neglect other work. You want to make sure that your wedding planner is on your team and always able to respond to each question that you have!
3. Make sure your planner has flexibility (within reason!)
Every single wedding is different so you want to make sure that your planner fully understands who you and your partner are as a couple. This will help your planner make decisions on your behalf and know what to present to you so you love your wedding, details, and can truly curate an event that is 100% tailored to you. If your wedding requires something unique or special, make sure that your planner knows it, and has the flexibility and capability of being able to incorporate it into your wedding day seamlessly!
4. Make sure your style aligns with their style
Oftentimes, a couple will have an idea of what they want and bring it to me, but I have to turn it down because it just does not align with the caliber of work that I do. When you are trying to choose a wedding planner, make sure that your visions and ideas align with their work portfolio. Obviously, most planners have to be flexible in what they do for a couple, but most of the time, the work that a planner does is relatively similar, across-the-board
5. Ask what their planning process is like
A planner being transparent, clear, and concise about what their planning process looks like is very important. If they can’t articulate what their planning process consists of, and it seems like a jumbled mess, that’s usually how planning will go. If a planner is clear and concise in their words and ideas when you ask them how planning goes, that’s a good indicator of how the planning process will play out for a couple.
I think the hardest part when trying to choose a wedding planner is probably choosing someone that you actually vibe with. You can get along with pretty much everyone if you try, but to really connect with someone and vibe with them is something a little bit different. That’s why it’s always super important for you to show your true personality and check in on the 5 things above during a consultation with a potential wedding planner. The only way you’ll know if you actually vibe is if you both show who you really are and see if you can feel comfortable working together.
